Eating Disorder Therapy
With Cal Klingensmith
Clients Come to Me When They Experience:
consuming thoughts about food and body
binging and purging
restricting food intake
experiencing intense fear of gaining weight
obsessively checking the scale
intense discomfort in their body
lack of joy and excitement
emotional dysregulation
·
If you see yourself in these, you are in the right place.
How Eating Disorder Therapy With Me Works
We will explore your relationship with food and body and examine the narratives you have been fed about health, good/bad food and “perfect bodies”. We will also get curious about the role eating disorder behaviors play in your life and identify alternative ways to meet your needs.
Approaches I Use
-
Focuses on how we connect in session so you can build deeper relationships with yourself and others.
-
Helps uncover how past experiences shape the way identity and self-worth show up now.
-
Supports you in accepting what’s hard while still showing up for what matters
-
Helps you understand and care for different parts of yourself, especially those carrying shame, fear, or self-criticism.
After Eating Disorder Therapy With Me, Clients Report:
More confidence
less consumed by food thoughts
Better able to tolerate uncomfortable feelings
Reconnecting with their hobbies and favorite activities
Better focus
feeling more connected to themselves and the important people in their life
Self-acceptance
The goal isn’t simply to change a behavior.
It’s to help you re-engage in your life and the world around you.
About Cal Klingensmith
After studying at the Center for Anorexia and Bulimia, I worked with teens, young adults and adults struggling with eating disorders at Metro Behavioral Health and at NYU. I have continued this work since starting my private practice.
My sessions are relaxed, collaborative, and direct. My office gives living room vibes. I bike to work most days, my desk is always a bit messy, and I usually wear jeans and T-shirts, with shorts in the summer.
Despite the casual demeanor, I’m tenacious and deeply value my work with clients.
I’m a native New Yorker currently living in Harlem, a parent to a young toddler, and outside of therapy I love skiing, cycling, rec softball, and games of all kinds.
If you’re ready to take the first step, I’d be glad to connect.
Availability: provide in-person therapy in New York City, and virtual therapy via telehealth for clients across New York State and Connecticut.

We’ll schedule a short consultation to talk about your teen and see if working together feels like a good match.
-
Your teen and I will begin building trust, understanding what they are going through, and creating a path forward together.
