Substance Use Therapy

With Cal Klingensmith

Clients Come to Me When They Experience:

  • want to cut back on their use, but unable to do so, no matter how many times they have tried

  • more and more consequences from drinking and using

  • relationship struggles, work struggles, family struggles

  • inability to have fun and be social without substances

  • the window of time between use is becoming smaller and smaller

  • feeling anxious, irritable or discontent

You don’t have to get sober today, all you have to do is get in touch

How Substance Use Therapy With Me Works

I’ve been sober for close to 10 years. I really get it. I also know that complete sobriety is just ONE way to approach substance use. Working with me, you can start to understand your relationship to substances and then you can decide what you want to do about it.

Approaches I Use

After Substance Use Therapy With Me, Clients Report:

  • developing a relationship with substances that feels manageable

  • engaging in work and daily tasks at full capacity again

  • experiencing more joy

  • developing alternative coping skills to manage stressors

  • Reconnecting with hobbies and favorite activities

  • feeling more present with themselves and others

  • less self-involvement and more self-acceptance

The goal isn’t simply to change a behavior.

It’s to help you re-engage in your life and the world around you.

About Cal Klingensmith

My sessions are relaxed, collaborative, and direct. My office gives living room vibes. I bike to work most days, my desk is always a bit messy, and I usually wear jeans and T-shirts, with shorts in the summer.

Despite the casual demeanor, I’m tenacious and deeply value my work with clients.

I’m a native New Yorker currently living in Harlem, a parent to a young toddler, and outside of therapy I love skiing, cycling, rec softball, and games of all kinds.

If you’re ready to take the first step, I’d be glad to connect.

Availability:  provide in-person therapy in New York City, and virtual therapy via telehealth for clients across New York State and Connecticut.
